Drew McIntyre’s Second WWE Championship Reign

At the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view event in October 2020, McIntyre lost the WWE Championship to Randy Orton.

The following month, on Monday, November 16, 2020, Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton and regained the WWE Championship title. He lost the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber when The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and pinned him. McIntyre’s second reign as WWE Champion lasted 96 days.

At WrestleMania 37, McIntyre challenged Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship, but was unsuccessful after interference from MVP.  At WrestleMania Backlash, McIntyre challenged Lashley again in a triple threat match for the title also involving Braun Strowman but was unsuccessful once again.

On the May 31st episode of Monday Night RAW, McIntyre started trash talking Kofi Kingston about not beating Brock Lesnar, something that he had done at WrestleMania 36. But after his match McIntyre showed respect to Kingston by shaking hands with him after winning the match against him to earn a WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell against Bobby Lashley. The added stipulation of a Last Chance Hell in a Cell match, which meant that if McIntyre lost, he could no longer challenge for the championship, as long as Lashley remained champion. At the event, McIntyre failed once again to defeat Lashley for the title after interference from MVP.

On the June 28 episode of RAW, Drew McIntyre won a last chance qualifying match defeating Riddle and AJ Styles to enter the Money in the Bank match. At the event, McIntyre was unable to win the briefcase after being attacked by Jinder Mahal, Veer, and Shanky. During this feud, he introduced a sword called “Angela” (named after his late mother).

Drew McIntyre Drafted to SmackDown

On night one of the WWE Draft in October 2021, Drew McIntyre was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown.

At Crown Jewel, McIntyre faced Big E for the WWE Championship, but failed to win the title. On the October 22nd episode of SmackDown, he issued an open challenge. Sami Zayn came out and accepted McIntyre’s challenge. McIntyre beat Zayn. The following week, McIntyre issued another open challenge. Mustafa Ali came out and accepted this challenge. Again, McIntyre defeated Mustafa Ali.

At Survivor Series, McIntyre was the captain of Team SmackDown. But was eliminated via count out, and his team lost the match to Team RAW. On the December 3rd episode of SmackDown, McIntyre started feuding with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss. The feud began because they made fun of how Drew wasn’t in a battle royal where the winner would become the #1 contender for the Universal Championship. On 17 December episode of SmackDown, it was announced that he would face Moss at Day 1. At Day 1, McIntyre defeated Moss.

Drew McIntyre’s 2022 Battles

At the 2022 Royal Rumble match, McIntyre participated but was last eliminated by the eventual winner Brock Lesnar. The following month at Elimination Chamber, McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss in a Falls Count Anywhere match. On the first night of WrestleMania 38, he defeated Corbin and became the first person to kick out of Corbin’s finisher, End of Days.

At WrestleMania Backlash, McIntyre teamed with RK-Bro in a losing effort to Roman Reigns and The Usos. After weeks of absence due to a promotional tour of the United Kingdom, McIntyre made his return at the end of May. At Money in the Bank on July 2nd, McIntyre competed in the Money in the Bank ladder match, where the match was won by Theory.

On the July 8th episode of SmackDown, McIntyre was scheduled to face Sheamus to determine the number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle. The match did not occur as Sheamus was out of action due to illness. The match was later rescheduled for the July 29 episode as a “Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook” match, which McIntyre won. At SummerSlam the following night, Roman Reigns retained the undisputed title. As a result of his victory, this confirmed that Reigns would be the defending champion against McIntyre at Clash at the Castle.

At Clash at the Castle on September 3rd, McIntyre failed to win the titles from Roman Reigns after interference from Solo Sikoa. On the September 23rd episode of SmackDown, McIntyre challenged Kross to a strap match at Extreme Rules, which he accepted. At the event on October 8th, McIntyre lost to Kross after interference from Scarlett.

At Crown Jewel on November 5th, McIntyre defeated Kross in a steel cage match by escaping the cage to end their feud despite another interference from Scarlett. Three weeks later at Survivor Series WarGames on 26 November, McIntyre teamed with The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland and Butch) and Kevin Owens in a WarGames match against The Bloodline in a losing effort.

At the 2023 Royal Rumble in January, McIntyre entered at #9 but was eliminated by Gunther. On the second night of WrestleMania 39 on April 2, McIntyre challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat match. The match also involved Sheamus. Both McIntyre and Sheamus failed to defeat Gunther.

At the WWE 2023 Draft on April 28th, Drew McIntyre was drafted to Monday Night RAW.
