Todd Smith is a 38-year-old professional wrestler from Lynn, Massachusetts. Smith is currently signed with the WWE under its RAW brand and wrestles under the ring name, Ivar. He is also one half of the tag team, the Viking Raiders, alongside his partner, Erik.

Smith started his wrestling career in 2001 after being trained by Killer Kowalski. He wrestled around the independent scene in England, most notably for Chaotic Wrestling. In 2013, he began wrestling in Ring of Honor (ROH) and with Raymond Rowe, they formed the tag team War Machine in 2014. The War Machine won the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship in December 2015 but lost the titles in April 2016. Smith and Rowe both left Ring of Honor the following year.

In September 2015, Rowe and Smith made their Japanese debuts as a tag team for Pro Wrestling Noah and New Japan Pro Wrestling. In April 2017, they won the IWGP Tag Team Championship titles at Sakura Genesis.

Smith and Rowe Sign with WWE

In 2018, both Smith and Rowe signed with the WWE and reported for training to the WWE Performance Center in Florida. They made their televised debut on an episode of NXT in April as the tag team, The War Raiders, and attacked Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight) and the team of Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli.

In January 2019, The War Raiders won the NXT Tag Team Championship after facing The Undisputed Era at NXT TakeOver: Phoenix. During the WWE’s Superstar Shake-up, Rowe and Hanson joined RAW and became known as Erik (Rowe) and Ivar (Smith). Their tag team was also re-packaged as “The Viking Raiders.”

In October 2019, the Viking Raiders became the WWE RAW Tag Team champions after defeating Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Their reign lasted 98 days before being defeated by Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy in January 2020.

Ivar Returns To In Ring Action

In September 2020, Ivar underwent successful neck surgery after sustaining a cervical neck injury during a match on Monday Night RAW. Ivar returned to in ring action on the April 12th edition of RAW where he teamed up with his tag team partner Erik against Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander in a winning effort.

Ivar & Erik Drafted to SmackDown

At the WWE Draft in October 2021, Ivar and Erik were drafted to Friday Night SmackDown.

On February 19, 2022 at the Elimination Chamber, the Viking Raiders were attacked by The Usos before their match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. But on the March 4 episode of SmackDown, they unsuccessfully challenged the Usos for the titles. On the June 24 episode of SmackDown, the Viking Raiders would return with new gear and face paint, being called “The Vicious” Viking Raiders, and would violently attack The New Day and Shanky, turning heel.

As part of the 2023 WWE Draft, Ivar and Erik were drafted to Monday Night RAW.
