KATANA CHANCE

Kacy Catanzaro is a 33-year-old professional wrestler from Glen Ridge, New Jersey. She is signed with the WWE and performs on the RAW roster under the ring name, Katana Chance.

Kacy began gymnastics training at just six years old and went on to become a Junior Olympic gymnast. She reached level 10 in 2007 and competed at the 2007 New Jersey Level 10 State Championships where she placed fifth in the Senior-A division. In 2008, she competed in the 2008 New Jersey Level 10 State Championships. She placed third and then advanced to the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships.

In 2009, Kacy Catanzaro competed in gymnastics for Towson in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She was part of the Towson Tigers gymnastics team in 2009 to 2019 that won the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships. She was also named the Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2012. As well, Kacy was named the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Year and was the top-ranked competitor in that conference for 2013.

American Ninja Warrior

In 2014, Kacy Catanzaro became the first woman to qualify for the finals of the television sports show, American Ninja Warrior. She was also the first woman to complete a City Finals course. Catanzaro also competed in American Ninja Warrior seasons 7, 8 and retired after season 9.

Kacy Catanzaro’s WWE Contract

In January 2017, Kacy Catanzaro was granted a tryout for the WWE at the company’s Performance Center in Florida. During the Mae Young Classic tournament in August 2017, it was announced that Kacy had signed a contract with the WWE. She made her in-ring debut on NXT the following year in a losing match to Reina González.

Kacy Catanzaro’s Main Roster Debut

Catanzaro made her main roster debut at the WWE’s Royal Rumble in January 2019. She made her NXT debut a few months later in March. According to various sources, Kacy handed in her resignation to WWE in August 2019 because she was suffering with an ongoing back injury.

Kacy returned to the ring on January 15, 2020 as a surprise contestant in a women’s Royal Rumble match on NXT. She then teamed with Kayden Carter in September in a winning match against Jessi Kamea and Xia Li. The following week, she competed in a battle royal to determine the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. She eliminated Indi Hartwell to become one of the final four. Kacy was eliminated by Dakota Kai, with help from the eventual winner, Candice LeRae.

Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter Team Up

Catanzaro and Carter took part in the 2021 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. They defeated Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, they lost to Dakota Kai and Raquel González. They would then feud with Xia Li after constantly being attacked by her throughout the following weeks.

Catanzaro lost to Li on the February 24th episode of NXT and injured her leg afterwards. On the March 10th episode of NXT, she had her revenge on Li by hitting her with a crutch. But, this cos Carter to lose her match by disqualification. Catanzaro and Carter lost to Li in a handicap match on the March 31 episode of NXT, with the former taking the pin after a cyclone kick. On the May 4th episode of NXT, Catanzaro and Carter announced that they decided to leave Li alone.

They defeated Franky Monet and Jessi Kamea on the July 27th episode of NXT. The following month, after defeating Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, Catanzaro and Carter announced that they would be pursuing the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship. They had their chance on the following week’s episode, losing to champions Io Shirai and Zoey Stark.

NXT Women’s Championships & Ring Name Change

Catanzaro and Carter entered the 2022 Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic where they defeated Diamond Mine’s Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley in the first round. They did, however, lose to Kay Lee Ray and Io Shirai in the semi-finals.

In April 2022, Catanzaro’s ring name was changed to Katana Chance. After defeating Yulisa Leon and Valentina Feroz on the April 26 episode of NXT, Chance and Carter pursued the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. They failed to win the titles at NXT In Your House. After losing, Chance and Carter began a slow heel turn where they failed to become #1 contenders for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship which they lost on the June 28 episode of NXT to Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez.

Chance & Carter: NXT Tag Team Champions

On the August 2nd episode of NXT, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter won the vacant Women’s NXT Tag Team Championship titles. There were four teams that battled in the match. Chance & Carter defeated the teams of Toxic Attraction, Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley, and Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz.

They defended their titles against Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. at Worlds Collide, and against Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark on the October 25 and November 8 episodes of NXT. On January 8, 2023, Catanzaro and Carter became the longest reigning NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. On the January 24 episode of NXT, they retained against Alba Fyre and Sol Ruca. At NXT Vengeance Day, Chance and Carter lost the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship to Fallon Henley and Kiana James, ending the historic reign at 186 days.

As part of the 2023 WWE Draft, Chance, along with tag team partner Kayden Carter, was drafted to the RAW brand. They made their main roster debut on the June 5th episode of RAW. At their debut, they lost to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. Almost six months later, they defeated Chelsea Green and Piper Niven for the titles, becoming the first women’s tag team to have won the WWE and NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.
