ROBERT ROODE
Robert Francis Roode Jr. is a 48-year-old Canadian professional wrestler. He is currently signed to the WWE and performs on RAW under his real name, Robert Roode.
Roode began his wrestling career after training in Ontario, Canada. His debut match was in June 1998 under the ring name, “Total” Lee Awesome. He wrestled for various Canadian wrestling promotions and the Puerto Rican promotion, World Wrestling Council. Between 1998 and 2004, Roode also worked a series of dark matches for the WWE.
In 2004, Robert Roode began wrestling for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. He won the NWA World Tag Team Championship, was a six-time TNA World Tag Team Champion, a two-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion, and he also won the World Tag Team Championship and the TNA King of the Mountain Championship one time.
Roode Signs WWE Contract
Roode signed with WWE in 2016 and was assigned to the developmental territory, NXT. In January 2017, Roode defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to become the NXT Champion. He lost the title to Drew McIntyre on August 19 which also marked his first singles loss in NXT.
Robert Roode was drafted to the main roster and made his debut on SmackDown in August 2017. In January 2018, Roode defeated Jinder Mahal in the finals of an eight man tournament to win the United States Championship.
In December 2018, Roode and Chad Gable defeated AOP and captured the RAW Tag Team Championships. Roode and Gable lost the titles in February 2019 to the Revival. In May 2019, Roode defeated Titus O’Neill for the 24/7 title but lost it the same night to R-Truth.
Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler Tag Team Champs
In September 2019, Roode teamed with Dolph Ziggler and defeated Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman for the RAW Tag Team Championship titles at Clash of Champions. They lost the titles the following month to The Vikings.
Robert Roode was traded to Monday Night RAW on June 22, 2020. At the WWE Draft in October 2020, Robert Roode was traded back to WWE SmackDown. On the January 8th 2021 episode of SmackDown, Robert Roode and Ziggler defeated The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. This would mark the team’s first SmackDown Tag Team Championship, second tag team championship overall as a team, and Roode’s third tag team championship as an individual.
Ziggler & Roode Lose Championships
At WrestleMania BackLash, Ziggler and Roode lost the WWE SmackDown Championships to Dominik and Rey Mysterio. Their reign lasted 128 days. As part of the WWE Draft in October 2021, Robert Roode was drafted to Monday Night RAW.
On the October 4th episode of RAW, Roode and Ziggler lost to Big E and Drew McIntyre. A few weeks later, Ziggler and Roode defeated Alpha Academy and the Street Profits in a #1 contenders match for a RAW tag team Championship match. Later that night, Roode and Ziggler failed to win the titles. On the November 1st episode of RAW, Roode and Ziggler defeated The Street Profits. at Survivor Series (2021). Roode then competed in a 25-man dual branded battle royal which was won by Omos.
At Royal Rumble 2022, Roode competed in the Royal Rumble match where he was eliminated by AJ Styles. The night before WrestleMania 38 during the “WrestleMania Edition” of SmackDown, Roode competed in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal which was won by Madcap Moss.
On the June 6 episode of Raw, Roode and Ziggler returned to Raw for the first time in months where they appeared for an interview segment on the stage but would be interrupted Omos and MVP. Ziggler then super-kicked MVP and both Roode and Ziggler were chased out of the arena by Omos, therefore turning Roode face for the first time since 2019.
