TYLER BATE

Tyler Bate is a 27-year-old professional wrestler from the United Kingdom. He is currently signed with the WWE and performs on both the company’s RAW brand. Bate is one half of the New Catch Republic team alongside Pete Dunne. 

Bate made his wrestling debut in Preston City Wrestling as “The Iron Master” Tyler Bate at PCW Fright Night III in 2014. At his debut, he participated in a losing, 4-way match also featuring Charlie Garrett, Rich Swann and Zack Gibson. In early 2015, Bate debuted for American promotion, Chikara, alongside Trent Seven as part of their tour of the United Kingdom.

The duo of Bate and Seven engaged in several dark matches before becoming regular participants in Chikara events starting in 2016. On August 21, 2016, they achieved victory over Los Ice Creams, N_R_G, and The Devastation Corporation, thereby securing the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas. However, they were later stripped of the title during Chikara’s secret season 16.

Bate Teams with Trent Seven & Pete Dunne

In 2017, Tyler Bate teamed with Trent Seven and Pete Dunne, to form “House Strong Style,” and they entered the 2017 King of Trios. House Strong Style defeated House Whitewolf in the first round and then beat House Throwbacks in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, House Strong Style defeated House Rot and in the finals, they beat the House Sendai Girls to win the 2017 King of Trios.

Tyler Bate made his debut in Progress Wrestling during Chapter 22, participating in a quarter-final match of the Natural Progression Series, where he was defeated by William Eaver. His initial appearance in Progress, alongside Trent Seven as the tag team Moustache Mountain, resulted in a loss to Damian and Pete Dunne at Chapter 28. In Chapter 41, Bate and Seven triumphed over The London Riots and The LDRS of the New School, consisting of Zack Sabre Jr. and Marty Scurll, in a three-way tag team match, thereby securing the vacant Progress World Championship. However, at Chapter 50, they lost the Tag Team Championships to #CCK, represented by Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos. After reclaiming the title, Bate and Seven faced #CCK again in a ladder match on September 10, 2017, but ultimately lost the championship once more.

Tyler Bate’s WWE Debut & Contract

On January 14 and 15, 2017, WWE conducted a tournament to establish the first-ever WWE United Kingdom Champion. Among the 16 competitors was Tyler Bate. In the initial round, Bate triumphed over Tucker, securing his place in the quarterfinals. He subsequently overcame Jordan Devlin, advancing to the semifinals, where he defeated Wolfgang. In the championship match, Tyler Bate emerged victorious against Pete Dunne, thus becoming the inaugural champion. At the age of 19, Bate distinguished himself as only the second teenager in WWE history to capture a title. Following this achievement, Tyler Bate entered into a contract with WWE, which permitted him to pursue independent bookings with certain limitations.

Bate defeated Oney Lurcan in his NXT debut on February 1st 2017. He appeared on 205 Live on April 4th along with the wrestlers who participated in the United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Bate lost the title at NXT TakeOver: Chicago to Pete Dunne. Bate competed in the WWE Cruiserweight Championship tournament in January 2018, where he was defeated by TJP in the first round.

British Strong Style Becomes NXT Tag Team Champions

At the second annual United Kingdom Championship Tournament in June 2019, Bate, Dunne and Seven (known in Europe as British Strong Style) defeated The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong) in a six-man tag team match. On day two of the tournament, Tyler Bate and Trent Seven defeated O’Reilly and Strong to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship, but then lost the titles back to O’Reilly and Strong on the July 11th episode of NXT. At NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4, Bate and Seven were unable to regain the titles in a rematch.

On December 20, 2018, Bate received his rematch for the WWE United Kingdom Championship, but lost to Pete Dunne again. On the January 2, 2019, episode of NXT UK Moustache Mountain defeated Gallus to advance to the finals to become the inaugural NXT UK Tag Team Champions. At NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool, Moustache Mountain lost to Grizzled Young Veterans in the finals.

At NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff, Tyler Bate faced Walter for the WWE United Kingdom Championship, but he failed to regain the championship.

Tyler Bate Wins NXT UK Heritage Cup

Tyler Bate defeated A-Kid to win the Heritage Cup on NXT UK’s May 20th episode. He retained the title against Jack Starz & Mark Coffey on the July 1 & 15 episodes of NXT UK. On the October 28, 2021 episode of NXT UK, Bate lost the title to Noam Dar after Trent Seven quit during an altercation with Pretty Deadly at ringside.

On the December 9th 2021 episode of NXT UK, Moustache Mountain defeated Pretty Deadly to win the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. As a result, this made them the first team to win both the NXT and NXT UK Tag Team Championships. They lost the tag titles to Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter in a triple threat match on June 2nd. On the June 16th episode of NXT UK, Seven attacked Bate by hitting him with a low blow from behind after making a fake retirement speech, thus turning heel for the first time in his WWE career and disbanding the Moustache Mountain.

Bate Returns to NXT

He won his second NXT UK Championship on 7 July, beating Trent Seven in the finals of a tournament that also included Oliver Carter, Charlie Dempsey, Wolfgang, Kenny Williams, Joe Coffey and Mark Andrews. He also appeared on NXT Heatwave on August 16th facing off with the NXT Champion Bron Breakker with the NXT UK Championship. On the August 23rd episode of NXT 2.0, Bate appeared to set a championship unification match at Worlds Collide. At the event, Bate lost the title to Breakker, ending his second and final reign at 60 days.

Bate’s Main Roster Debut

Tyler Bate debuted on the January 2024 episode of SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution as the mystery partner of Butch, taking on, and defeating Pretty Deadly. On the January 19th episode of SmackDown, Bate teamed with Butch, who returned to his previous ring name Pete Dunne. Together, they defeated Pretty Deadly in a rematch. In February, Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne were named as the New Catch Republic.

New Catch Republic won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Contender Series for an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match at Elimination Chamber: Perth. However, they failed to defeat The Judgment Day for the titles at the event. At Night 1 of WrestleMania XL, New Catch Republic participated in a six-pack tag team ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, but failed to win any of the tag titles.

As part of the 2024 WWE Draft, New Catch Republic were drafted to WWE’s RAW brand. In July, Bate was reportedly sidelined for a torn pectoral muscle after he suffered an injury, putting the team on hiatus.
